So Element Fresh, right. No biggie, nothing special (really nothing special, and I’m not just saying that having worked for the competition). But E and I decided to have our last brunch together (for now) at the one at Super Brand Mall.
We started off with our usual Hummus Dip, which I dare say is the best thing they’ve got going for them. I’ve tried a lot of the things on their menu because I’ve never liked one item enough to not keep moving on — though the Healthy Start brunch item isn’t bad, but it is hard to screw up an egg white omelet with some veggies tossed in. Their smoothies are all pretty decent, but like I always say, it’s also pretty hard to screw up a smoothie.
…that is, until today! I got particularly lucky with a smoothie today. E and I were totally going to split the peanut butter smoothie they have (E was talking about it for weeks), and when it came time to make the oh-so-crucial game time decision, we totally and utterly failed. Me more so than him. I ordered their special Vietnamese Avocado Smoothie off their seasonal summer menu. Avocados, blended with condensed milk (both of which I love) with a hint of mint.
It looks alright and innocent, but dang it was ghastly. I don’t know if you can even use ghastly to describe food, but my goodness, it was just downright terrible. It had no hint of sweetness and the avocados weren’t thoroughly blended so I was getting chunks of it. The mint was overpowering. Nastyyy!!!
At least the food was more edible (I only finished about a third of my smoothie in case you’re wondering, more so out of guilt for having paid that much and not drink at least a third of it). E had the California Hippie (not bad) while I had the Veggie Tofu Wrap (good at first, but you kind of feel like a cow grazing grass after a while).
I am pretty happy I won’t be going back to Element Fresh anytime soon. Any ol’ sandwich or smoothie place back in the States beats this.
