K, T, and I headed down to Times Square for the Counter Burger tonight. It was one of my favorite burger places back in California (yes, even more so than In-n-Out, which I think is over-hyped and has mostly mediocre fries, but is OK for the price, although I admit I would prefer a McDonald’s filet-o-fish because those things are GOOD!).
And yes, I ate meat tonight. I was going to get a veggie burger, but as I was explaining what was in a veggie burger to K, I convinced myself that was a terrible idea. Plus, I very seriously suspect that I’m not getting enough B vitamins. Picture above is my burger — beef with grilled mushrooms, grilled onions, lettuce mix, gruyere cheese, and tomato on ciabatta bread with garlic aioli sauce. Yum.
We got some fries to share — the fifty-fifty, a combo of garlic strings and sweet potato fries. I’m a fan of both.
And also some parmesan fries, which I haven’t had here before, but they were great. I like the texture and taste of their fries.
K’s burger — with pineapple!
And T’s — with plenty of side sauces. Sorry the picture is blurry. Still not consistent with the f-stop on this new lens.
The food was mostly as I remember it being, but perhaps a little less good. The atmosphere is totally different from the one near Stanford University and the one that opened in recent years at Santana Row. Both of those locations in California are much better — much more of a laid back, surfer feel than this Times Square location. Here, you unfortunately feel like more of a tourist, and “the Counter” feel that so nicely comes out of their website and other venues I’ve been to doesn’t come across at all. But, I’d probably still go back.
